Hunt for the Medicinal Chaga Mushroom
January 7, 2023 - Our hunt for the medicinal Chaga Mushroom (Inonotus obliquus) - a type of fungus that grows mainly on the bark of birch trees in cold climates, having an appearance similar to burnt charcoal. It is high in antioxidants and plant compounds and has been harvested for centuries as a traditional medicine, mainly to boost immunity and overall health. It also may reduce inflammation, help reduce oxidative stress, and also has been used to treat diabetes, certain cancers and heart disease. Traditionally, chaga was grated into a fine powder and brewed as an herbal tea. Nowadays, available as a tea but also as a powdered or capsuled supplement.

This is Cooper & Rocky's first wild primitive camp in the forest behind my home (approx. 1/4 of a mile into the woods on an old logging "road"). We enjoyed a nice camp fire, relaxed in the hammock, listened to the crickets chirp, cooked a delicious dinner - cast iron pan-seared shrimp, vegetable kabobs and hotdogs! It was a rainy night, which subsided early in the morning. The dogs played in th...
